No — the Dura5 can be used as a standalone grid-connected storage system without solar panels. In this mode it charges from the grid during cheap off-peak periods (such as Octopus Go or Agile tariff windows) and discharges during expensive peak hours, reducing your electricity bill through tariff arbitrage. Solar panels are optional but significantly increase the financial return by eliminating import costs during the day.
What inverter does the Dura5 work with?
The Dura5 is compatible with the Duracell Energy Dura-i hybrid inverter range and a number of third-party hybrid inverters that support CAN or RS485 battery communication protocols at 51.2 V nominal. Always confirm inverter compatibility with your installer before purchasing. Note that the Dura5 is not compatible with Dura5+ or Puredrive systems — these use different BMS protocols.
